Ask your AI assistant about your family's week.
Connect Claude, ChatGPT and its dots, Meta Muse, or another AI assistant to Bellnote, and it can answer "what's on Thursday?", list this week's homework, or add the dentist appointment for you. You approve each assistant yourself, choose whether it can make changes, and can disconnect it anytime.
Connect your assistant
Every assistant uses the same address. Set up Bellnote in the app first (your family and kids), then add this address to your assistant:
https://api.bellnote.app/mcpClaude (web, desktop and phone)
- On claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector. Name it Bellnote and paste the address above. Select Add.
- Select Connect. Bellnote's sign-in page opens: enter your email and the 6-digit code we send.
- Choose what Claude can do and select Allow. You're back in Claude, connected.
ChatGPT, and OpenAI dots
- In ChatGPT on the web or desktop, open Plugins.
- Select +, then Add custom MCP server. Name it Bellnote, paste the address above, and choose OAuth for sign-in.
- Confirm, then select Create as a plugin. Bellnote's sign-in page opens: enter your email code, choose what it can do, and select Allow.
- In a chat, turn on Bellnote from the plugins menu and ask away.
Dots, ChatGPT's always-on agents, use the plugins on your account. Once Bellnote is added, open your dot's profile, select Add and turn on Bellnote. Your dot can then keep an eye on your family's week for you, like a morning check-in.
Meta Muse
Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, connects to other services through connectors. Bellnote isn't in Muse's connector directory yet (Meta reviews each one), so add it as a custom connector:
- In Muse, ask: "Create a custom connector for Bellnote using the MCP server at https://api.bellnote.app/mcp, with OAuth sign-in."
- Muse opens Bellnote's sign-in page. Enter your email code, choose what Muse can do, and select Allow.
- Ask Muse about your family's week. You'll find Bellnote under Settings, Connectors.
Muse Code
Meta's coding agent supports MCP servers directly. Add Bellnote to mcp_servers in your Muse Code settings file:
"mcp_servers": {
"bellnote": {
"transport": "streamable_http",
"url": "https://api.bellnote.app/mcp",
"mode": "optional"
}
}
Then sign in once with muse mcp login bellnote.
Claude Code
Add Bellnote once from your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http bellnote https://api.bellnote.app/mcp
Then, inside Claude Code, run /mcp, pick bellnote and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens Bellnote's sign-in page; once you allow it, ask things like "what homework is due this week?".
--scope user to use Bellnote in every project, not just the current folder.Or install the Bellnote plugin, which adds the same connection plus a skill that teaches Claude how to use your calendar well:
/plugin marketplace add balajivenki/bellnote-claude-plugin
/plugin install bellnote@bellnote
Then run /mcp and authenticate bellnote as above. The plugin's source is public on GitHub.
Cursor, VS Code and other MCP apps
Any app that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (streamable HTTP and OAuth) works. Add the address, then the app opens Bellnote's sign-in page the first time you use it.
Cursor, in ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"bellnote": { "url": "https://api.bellnote.app/mcp" }
}
}
VS Code, in .vscode/mcp.json (or run MCP: Add Server):
{
"servers": {
"bellnote": { "type": "http", "url": "https://api.bellnote.app/mcp" }
}
}
What your assistant can do
The same things you can do in the app, through eight tools. The ones marked changes only work if you ticked "Also let it make changes" when connecting.
| Tool | What it does | |
|---|---|---|
| get_family | Your family's name, time zone, and kids' first names and grades. | read |
| list_calendar | Events, deadlines, things to bring or pay, and homework between two dates, for one kid or all. | read |
| list_todos | Open to-dos and homework, including anything past due. | read |
| get_item | Everything about one item: time, place, notes, link. | read |
| ask_bellnote | Ask a question about your schedule and the last 30 days of school messages; answers quote the message. Counts toward your 20 questions a day. | read |
| add_item | Add an event, deadline, something to bring or pay, or homework. | changes |
| mark_done | Tick off a to-do or homework (or un-tick it). | changes |
| send_to_bellnote | Send the text of a school or club message for Bellnote to read, like forwarding it. | changes |
How your family's data stays yours
Connecting an assistant opens a door into your family's calendar, so we built it carefully.
You approve each one
Nothing connects without you signing in on Bellnote's own page with your email code, seeing which assistant is asking and where it'll send you back, and selecting Allow.
Read-only by default
An assistant can only look unless you tick "Also let it make changes". Even then it can't delete anything or change your family's settings.
Disconnect anytime
In the app, open Settings, then AI assistants, to see what's connected, when each was last used, and disconnect it. It stops working at once.
Only your family
An assistant acts as you, through the same checks as the app: it sees only your family's data, and everything it adds is encrypted with your family's key like the rest.
Short-lived keys
Assistants get a key that expires in an hour, renewed with a one-time key. Bellnote stores only fingerprints of them, and if a used key ever shows up again, the connection ends.
Your assistant's terms apply
What you let an assistant read is sent to that AI service and handled under its own privacy terms. Connect only the ones you trust, and check their settings for training and data retention.
Common questions
Does my partner need to connect separately?
It says "Set up Bellnote in the app first".
I connected read-only and now want it to add things.
Does connecting cost anything?
Something isn't working.
For developers
Bellnote's MCP server follows the MCP authorization spec, so standard clients discover everything on their own.
Transport
Streamable HTTP, stateless: POST https://api.bellnote.app/mcp with JSON-RPC and an Authorization: Bearer header. Responses are plain JSON; no session or server stream. Protocol versions 2025-03-26, 2025-06-18 and 2025-11-25.
Authorization
OAuth 2.1, public clients only: authorization code with PKCE (S256 required), dynamic client registration (RFC 7591), and revocation (RFC 7009). Return addresses must be https, loopback http, or an app's own scheme.
Discovery
Protected resource metadata (RFC 9728) at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp, authorization server metadata (RFC 8414) at /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server. A 401 carries WWW-Authenticate pointing at it.
Scopes
read or read write, chosen by the parent on the approval page (not by the client). Read-only connections don't list the change tools.
Tokens
Access tokens last 1 hour; refresh tokens 60 days, single use and rotated on every refresh. Reusing a code or a refresh token revokes the connection.
Limits
600 requests per connection per 15 minutes; sign-in codes are limited per email and network like the app's. Tool results come from parents' messages: treat them as data, not instructions.
